Bonner Leaders Program
The Bonner Leaders Program at UNC Charlotte is an intensive, four-year community engagement opportunity for undergraduates. Bonner Leaders are embedded in Charlotte-based institutions and agencies, participate in weekly skills development seminars, earn course credit, conduct community based research, and contribute to public policy initiatives.
Bonner Leaders are selected through a highly competitive process open to incoming first-year students eligible for federal work-study awards. The program is committed to the belief that students can address critical social issues, providing them with an avenue to positively affect their campuses, the local community, and the world through leadership and excellence in service.

MARTIN SCHOLARS
The Martin Scholars Program is one of UNC Charlotte’s leading merit scholarship programs, established in 2016 through the generosity of UTOP and UNC Charlotte alumni Demond T. (’97) and Twakia “Kia” (’98) Martin. The Martin Scholars Program is housed in the Honors College in order to support high-achieving students with the highest level of financial need. With around 20 scholars in the program, the scholarship helps to relieve students of financial concerns, allowing them to pursue academic excellence and personal development. In addition, the program provides students with opportunities for professional development through specialized programing and financial assistance in studying abroad or completing an internship.
The Martin Scholars Program is open to entering freshmen, transfer students, and current UNC Charlotte undergraduate students who are Pell-eligible with zero Expected Family Contribution. The program places a strong emphasis on commitment to academics, campus and community involvement, and making the most of the college experience. The program expects students to join an honors program.
University Honors Program
The University Honors Program (UHP) is the oldest and largest honors program at UNC Charlotte, welcoming students from any major. As the only interdisciplinary honors program at UNC Charlotte, UHP encourages a diversity of ideas and thoughts from its membership and encourages an interdisciplinary approach to solving problems both academically and within the community.
Student Government Association
The Student Government Association at UNC Charlotte works to advocate for the financial, academic and social needs of the Student Body. SGA is organized into three different branches: Executive, Legislative, and Judicial.
SGA is an opportunity to:
- represent the student voice
- affect change on campus
- develop leadership skills
- meet student leaders and advocates
- learn parlimentary procedure
- interact with University administrators
- obtain experience with law, government, business, and more!
Student Ambassadors
The main objective of the Student Ambassador organization is to promote loyalty and fellowship among the students, parents, alumni, and administration at UNC Charlotte.
The Ambassadors strive to share their enthusiasm and commitment to the University with others.
Emerging Leaders
Emerging Leaders is a UNC Charlotte tradition founded in 1980 that offers a select group of first-year, first-time UNC Charlotte students the opportunity to develop leadership skills, while making friends and having a great time. If you want to get involved and make a true contribution to the campus community, this program is ideal for you!
Emerging Leaders provides leadership training and mentorship to first-year, first-time students at UNC Charlotte; maximizing the ability of these individuals to succeed and contribute to UNC Charlotte as student leaders in the coming years.

It’s sharing your love of the university with prospective students and their families when they visit our beautiful campus!
SAFE Mentors
SAFE Mentors help First Year students successfully transition from their High School experience to life here in NINER NATION! As a mentor you will champion academic success, social networking opportunities and help guide each first year student assigned to you.
Orientation Counselors
Orientation Counselors (OCs) fulfill a critical role in helping new students and families transition to the UNC Charlotte campus. During your time as an OC you will gain skills in a variety of areas such as leadership, public speaking, team achievement, and problem solving.
Successful OC candidates will exhibit the NSFS Values of Courage, Equity, Growth, and Connection. Candidates must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and want to work with incoming first-year and transfer students as well as parents, family members, and guests.
Resident Advisor
Resident Advisors are responsible for carrying out the mission of the department by assisting with the development of community on their floors and within their hall(s). The RA is a student leader who lives in the residence halls, and is an integral position in the Department of Housing and Residence Life.The RA position has a variety of responsibilities including, but not limited to, role model, community leader, educator, administrator, helper and team member.
Fraternity and Sorority life
As you start your career at UNC Charlotte, we hope you will take the time to consider the many opportunities available to you outside the classroom to enrich your college experience. There are over 250 student organizations available at UNC Charlotte. Going Greek is one that truly stands out among all of them. Joining a fraternity or sorority provides you a home away from home, with true brothers and sisters of national and international families. The relationships you build when you Go Greek will last a lifetime!
Being involved in a fraternity or sorority can help to build new skills that can be advantageous throughout life. These benefits can include leadership development, organizational skills, and the invaluable personal growth that comes from this involvement. Fraternity & Sorority Life provides opportunities to be involved in campus leadership positions, community service, planning of social functions, positions within the chapter, scholarship opportunities and irreplaceable friendships, all helping you to grow and succeed while at UNC Charlotte and throughout life.
